TAMIYA 155mm US M40 Self-Propelled Gun 1/35 35351

The M40 marked a significant step in the mechanization of the US Army's heavy artillery. It was the result of combining the 155mm M1 gun with the proven chassis of the M4 Sherman tank. The latter's configuration was modified to provide space for the large artillery piece and a large rear fighting compartment. Since the vehicle was designed to operate behind the front lines (the gun's range was 23km), armor protection was minimal. More than 400 examples were produced before the end of WWII, but too late to participate in the conflict. The M40 subsequently saw action in Korea before being replaced by the M53.
