ICM: Ju 88A-4 with German Ground Personnel and Torpedo Trailers in 1:48

In its approach to naval warfare, the Luftwaffe relied heavily on bomb-equipped aircraft. However, over time, the need for torpedo-equipped aircraft arose, which made it possible to effectively carry out missions aimed at hitting targets at sea. By 1941, the German Air Force had five torpedo squadrons, each numbering 12 aircraft according to the staffing table. By the beginning of 1942, the front-line Ju-88 bombers of the A-4 modification, with good maneuverability and fairly powerful defensive armament, were converted into torpedo-equipped versions. The standard strike armament of these aircraft was F5b torpedoes. The warhead weight of these torpedoes reached 250 kg and their range was 6,000 meters (at a speed of 24 knots). In addition to the "free hunt" for isolated ships, torpedo planes were also used against large, well-protected caravans, detachments of warships, and amphibious assault forces. Luftwaffe torpedo bombers could be based at airfields in Italy, southern France, or northern Norway. Torpedo bomber training centers were established to train aircrew and practice torpedo bomber tactics, one of which was located in Groseto, Italy.
