The naval variant of the Invader JD-1D "Jig Dog" aircraft was used by the US Navy as a carrier of unmanned aerial vehicles. Several auxiliary squadrons of the fleet's aviation units were equipped with these aircraft. In this case, the drones served as targets and allowed pilots and air defense forces to practice their skills in detecting and destroying aerial targets. A typical suspension option was a KDA-1 Firebee drone under one wing and an external fuel tank under the other. The aircraft were yellow-blue in color, which made them easy to recognize, and the drones were painted bright red, clearly visible against the sky and ground.
